Football Friendly
Camelford 1 Bude 2
Budes’ new manager Clive Cornish took a new
look squad to Camelford for their first friendly of the season and
recorded a fine win against a side who had already produced two great
results against higher opposition. For the opening 25 mins Bude produced
some excellent passing football with central midfielders Herbie Goodgroves,
Dan Balsdon, and Adam Cornish combining superbly. Bude opened the scoring
after 15 mins when a short corner was crossed in by Jason Ferrett who
found Gary Hodgson at the near post to guide a looping header over the
Camels keeper and in to the back of the net. Mid way through the half
Camelford worked their way back in to the game and when a Bude attack
broke down in midfield Camels broke forward, beat the keeper and with the
Bude players trailing squared the ball across the six yard box for a
simple tap in from the Camels striker.
The 2nd half was much more even with both
teams having few chances. Camelford were awarded a penalty mid way through
the half when Bude keeper Ben Purcell was pulled up for an infringement on
a Camelford player at a corner. Purcell who last season saved more
penalties than he let in again went the right way and saved. Bude
themselves were awarded a penalty late in the game when striker Tommy
Statton crossed from the right only for the Camels left back to handle in
the area. Jason Ferretts’ poorly taken penalty some how found its way in
after the keeper had already dived and could only kick the ball in to his
net. Hopefully this is a glimpse of things to come in the league for Bude
who have set their goal to win the league and gain automatic promotion
back in to the East Cornwall Premier League.
