Morwenstow 2 Bude 4
Against North Devon Premier League champs Morwenstow, Bude produced a
more improved performance than against Holsworthy just a few days before.
After an even start, Bude went one nil up with a Gary Hodgson corner
finding Tommy Statton (see, he can take corners) in the box who headed in
from 8 yards. A superb individual run from Dan Balsdon saw him hit the
cross bar from an acute angle soon after. Bude took control of the 2nd
half with the hard working John Clayton collecting two goals before slack
defending saw Morwenstow reduce the score to three - one. Bude again took
control and could have added a number of goals to their tally but managed
just one with The Greens keeper Sam Couch pulling off two superb saves.
Budes fourth was scored when a break down the left saw a squared ball
across the box in to the path of Statton for a simple tap in. A
controversial second goal for Morwenstow minutes from time saw sub Adam
James attempt to lob the keeper from 40 yards, Budes Ben Purcell jogged
back, got behind the ball and parried it down in front of him on the goal
line. With a couple of Morwenstow voices shouting ‘ GOAL’ the referee on
the half way line decided that was good enough reason to allow the goal
and blew his whistle. A good result for Bude in the end, in their final
friendly before next weeks big kick off. Many thanks to Luke Francis who
filled in as ref at the last minute, who without, wouldn’t have seen such
an entertaining game of football. Cheers Luke.
