If Bude ever thought it was going to be an easy ride in the Duchy League, it was soon erased when a strong St.Columb side arrived at Bude and outplayed the home side for the opening 25 mins. They could easily have been two nil up inside the first 5 mins but failed to take advantage of Bude’s lack of organisation and awareness. Bude however pulled themselves together and started to play some football in the final 15 mins of the half twice striking the woodwork but not finding the net. The second half saw Bude take over and soon went one nil up, striker Tommy Statton dropped of the defence to collect the ball, and fed in Dan Balsdon who beat the last defender on the outside and put a left foot strike in to the far bottom corner. Bude made it two nil with a ‘goal of the month’ contender, Balsdon striking a volley from 25 yards out which flew past the helpless Major’ keeper. Major got a consolation goal right on the final whistle, new striker Jon Doherty receiving the ball in the Bude box and a sweet left foot put the ball through a big gap left by the Bude defence.
