Duchy Premier League
Bude
4 St.Mawgan 0
Bude produced an
impressive performance to defeat a St.Mawgan side who drew against the
Seasiders just weeks ago. Against a strong wind in the first half Bude
defended well and played the better looking football, but St.Mawgan
created the more chances thanks to the wind, but Bude held out well with
young keeper Matt Warburton pulling off a number of superb saves from
long range shots. Bude took the lead after 55 mins when a ball played
out wide to Jason Ferrett saw him put an early cross in to the box and
Statton reacted to put a left foot strike in to the top left corner.
Bude soon made it two when striker Gary Dinshaw received the ball inside
the box, flicked it past his marker and hit his shot off the keeper, the
rebound fell to Gary Hodgson on the edge of the box who struck in to the
bottom right corner. It was route one football for Budes’ third when
Warburtons’ direct kick went through to Dinshaw who finished well with
composure. Budes fourth came with another move down the left with the
cross again finding Statton who hit a shot first time in to the bottom
near corner. Bude kept their first league clean sheet since the
beginning of September with a superb display from the back five of
Warburton, Lee Cornish, Gareth Martyn, Wayne Cornish and Jamie Hopcroft.
With more performances like this, some players will surely be heading
towards that ‘Hall of Fame’.
