Duchy Premier League
Lanreath 2 Bude 1
With extremely windy conditions Bude used it to
their advantage in the 1st half edging it over the home side. They should
have went one nil up after 15 mins when a Jason Ferrett free kick from 25
yards out flew straight in to the top left half corner, only for the
referee to disallow it due to players pressuring the goalkeeper even
though there was no Bude player within 10 yards of the keeper. Soon after
Bude finally took the lead when another Ferrett free kick from the right
was delivered towards the back post and Gary Hodgson headed in from close
range. Ferret's free kicks were proving dangerous and a third free kick
outside after 25 mins went through a crowd of players and off the back
post. Lanreath worked hard against the wind but were rarely troubling the
Bude stand in keeper Gary Dinshaw until the 35 min when a Lanreath player
was played the ball in behind the defence on the left, carried the ball in
to the box and squared to Nick Collins who arrived to smash the ball in from 6
yards out. It was Budes turn now to play against the wind as the second
half rarely saw Bude get out of their own half, Lanreath soon took the
lead, a good corner found Nick Baillee completely unmarked in the box and he
couldn’t miss from just yards out. Lanreath continued to press Bude and if
there shooting was any better could have won by a bigger margin but their
shots were going well wide of the posts, over the bar, everywhere but on
target. Bude needed to be going in to half time with a lead, they knew the
second half would be tough, but it didn’t happen on the day. A weak ref
didn't help, who even admitted after the game that he should have allowed
Ferret's free kick in the first half.
