Duchy Premier League
St.Minver 2 Bude 3
A good start to the new year for Bude as they were made to work hard
for their three points. Fifteen year old keeper Matt Warburton made
his senior debut in goal and produced a great display to show why he has
been brought in at this level so soon. Bude started off still in
Christmas mode, very slowly and their formation more Christmas pudding
than Christmas tree, St.Minver took the lead early on when a dodgy
pass back to the keeper saw the ball fall to Ben Chapman who punished the
mistake with a goal. Bude levelled the game midway through the half
when Dan Balsdon played a one-two with Adam Cornish, got in behind the
defence and as the keeper came out saw the ball squared to Gary Dinshaw
who stroked the ball in to an empty net from 12 yards. Bude started
the second half as they started the first and St.Minver soon gave out a
warning as they hit Bude's right hand post. After 55 mins the ball
failed to clear Bude's backline and fell to James Mabley just outside the box,
and he shot low through a crowd of players and in to the bottom left
corner of the net. Bude made changes and sub Tommy Statton soon
became provider as he flicked on a long ball, midfielder Lee Cornish
played a great first touch in front of himself and shot early past the
keeper in to the bottom right corner for his first goal of the season.
Bude's winner came in the 80th minute when a cross field pass from Dinshaw
picked out Balsdon unmarked on the left and from 25 yards out hit a sweet
strike which flew over the keepers head in to the goal.
